Stefny’s true love has always been music. It all started for her when her mother brought home a freestyle record, Debbie Deb’s “when I hear music” as well as her older brother introducing her to acid house and techno in the 80′s. The sunshine California girl migrated to Denver, NYC, now based in Montreal, has been a DJ for 15 years. Her DJ career began in Denver playing her first clubs and raves. Since she relocated to New York in 2002, Stefny has been a resident at Direct Drive, started an all female DJ collective, volunteered at Jeannie Hopper’s Liquid Sound Lounge radio show and organized a series of events around Manhattan and Brooklyn. Once a mainstay as well as performing at NY’s Bunker & Resolute parties, she’s since performed at events such as the legendary, Picnik Electronik, Igloofest, London’s fabric, also toured Europe and Japan. Its her origins as a House & Drum n’ Bass DJ which seems to inform her selection with a diversity some Techno DJs lack. Hints of Minimal, hints of House, hints of Dub, hints of Detroit –
Stefny’s own beats on Archipel & Contexterrior bring to mind a defined sexier, more mature feel. The Echinodon EP on Archipel features Isomer Transition, Flourish and Bruno Pronsato was recently in demand for vinyl repress.
After a year of releasing remixes in 2010 for labels such as, Soma, Adjunct Audio, Siteholder, Klectik, Smut, and the Bipolar remixes for Niederflur, her first collaboration with Pheek, she had her first sound design contract with Montreal’s Videotron “Infinity”. Also a special project released July 31st of a triple pack CD compilation of The Units – “Connections” on Opilec Music. A project of over 40 artists who reworked, remixed and re-edited original songs from San Francisco’s legendary synthpunk band from the late 70′s and 80′s, the first of there genre in the U.S. Also look out for her debut album coming in 2012.
